About KayaCost
KayaCost is a set of free calculators that show what it really costs to run a South African home: electricity, water, fuel, the car and the monthly budget. It is part of KayaWise.
Where our figures come from
- Eskom electricity prices come from Eskom's 2026/27 tariff booklet and schedule of standard prices, approved by NERSA.
- Fuel prices come from the monthly announcement by the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, cross-checked with the Central Energy Fund and the Fuels Industry Association of South Africa.
- Each figure in our code records its source link and effective date, and each calculator shows those sources.
- Where we could not confirm a figure from an official source, we leave it blank and say so, rather than guess. Municipal electricity and water tariffs vary, so you enter your own.
- Last full review: 30 October 2026. Fuel prices are updated after each monthly change.
How the site is funded
The site may show clearly labelled display advertising. We do not use affiliate or referral links, we are not paid to recommend any provider, and adverts never change a calculation.
